The cold polar regions are freezing deserts which provide little in the way of shelter or food for the hardy animals which brave these conditions.
Animals which live here have bodies heavily insulated against the cold. Some polar animals migrate to warmer regions in the winter. Others feed extensively in the spring and summer, and live off their body fat in the coldest periods of the year.
